Casey and I don't usually do a whole lot on Valentine's Day. It's not worth waiting an hour or more to get seated at a restaurant only to receive rushed service and cold food. But this year we did even less. I had to work from 3:00-11:00 pm, so even having a nice dinner together at home wasn't on the agenda. Instead, Casey and I saw each other for about 10 minutes between the time he came home from work and I left. But in that brief moment I did get roses, a bracelet and a card that almost made me cry. But Casey's first words as he came in the door were the best part of the present. He walked in and said, "If you run outside you can see your balloon before it's out of sight." Apparently there had been a balloon tied to the vase of roses but it came untied somewhere between the car and the front door.
I wanted to at least make the day special for the kids even though I had to work. So while Jace was at preschool, Camden and I headed over to Target to pick up a Valentine's Day treat and the stuff to make chocolate dipped strawberries for Casey (ok, they were more for me than for him but that was my excuse for making them). Well those plans didn't work either. About 10 minutes into our shopping excursion the power went out at Target due to the storm from the night before. It was completely dark for about 5-10 seconds and then about 1/2 the normal amount of lights came on. We continued shopping only to get to the checkout counter and learn that their system was down. They were accepting cash and checks but no credit/debit cards. I never carry cash or a checkbook so we deserted our cart and went to get Jace from preschool. Luckily he had a Valentine's party at school and got valentines and candy from his friends, and Camden is too little to know the difference. Oh well, I guess that's what I get for planning ahead so well.
I hope the rest of you had a great Valentine's Day. Mine was definitely memorable.
